The Vault
What Onyx Bolt is, what it is not, and how we approach personal finance editorial for Australian readers.
Published by the Onyx Bolt editorial team — Hobart, TAS
What We Publish
The Vault Ledger covers three intersecting areas of Australian personal finance: savings habits and behaviour, emergency-fund building, and the questions worth asking when comparing savings accounts. Every dispatch is editorial — written by the team, not produced by or for any bank or financial product provider.
We do not publish interest rate tables, product reviews, or application links. Our dispatches explain concepts, list questions to research, and point readers toward public information on bank websites and ASIC's MoneySmart platform.
What We Are Not
Onyx Bolt is not a comparison website, a financial product marketplace, or a licensed financial service. We are not affiliated with any of the Australian banks mentioned editorially on this site, including ANZ, Bendigo Bank, Commonwealth Bank, ING, Macquarie, NAB, St.George Bank (A Division of Westpac Banking Corporation), or Westpac. Mentions are for editorial and educational reference only.
The name "Vault" and "lock" are used as metaphors for financial security — holding and protecting savings. This publication has no connection to locksmith services, security systems, hardware, or installation of any kind.
Editorial Independence
Our editorial team selects topics based on reader questions, public data from the Reserve Bank of Australia and ASIC, and our own assessment of what is genuinely useful for people managing savings in Australia. No institution can pay to be mentioned, ranked, or featured positively. Corrections are handled at contact.html.
The Name and Metaphor
A vault is a place to secure things of value. A ledger is a record of transactions and balances. Together they describe what we try to do: help readers think more carefully about where their savings sit and how they grow.
"Onyx" refers to the stone — dark, structured, durable — which gives the publication its visual identity: a palette of anthracite, indigo, and muted bronze. There is no connection to any product, service, or company using the Onyx name.
